Building Communities for Better Health-  This is a 3 year grant designed to increase the capacity of community coalitions to make measurable improvements in chronic disease prevention within their communities. Washington County is one of 17 local public health agencies chosen to help communities improve lives by developing a Chronic Disease Prevention Plan, developing interventions and sustaining those efforts through, expanding, and existing partnerships. Washington County Health Department works through the Washington County Health Coalition, and with the Chronic Disease Prevention Plan, to increase access to healthy foods, opportunities for physical activity and to decrease the use of, and access or exposure to tobacco. 

Rural Community Opioid Response Program – Washington County Health Department participates in a 5 member consortium including: The Washington County Health Department, Washington County Ambulance District, Washington County Partnership, Washington County Memorial Hospital and Great Mines Health Center. A drug task force, lead by the consortium was created with community members and stakeholders participating in monthly meetings and activities to address opioid use in Washington County. The consortium applied for a received a 3 year HRSA Opioid grant for the purpose of; education and prevention, treatment and recovery.
